Getting a new roof is exciting — it’s a major upgrade to your home’s protection and curb appeal. But the day before and the day of a roof replacement involve some real activity around your property, and a little preparation on your end can help everything go more smoothly.
Start outside. Clear your driveway as much as possible — the crew will need space to unload bundles of shingles, set up equipment, and potentially place a dumpster for debris. Move vehicles out of the way, not just the driveway but also along the sides of the house where the crew will be working and where debris may fall.
Trim back any bushes or low branches that could interfere with crew movement around the perimeter of the house. While good roofing crews use tarps to catch debris and protect your landscaping, the cleaner the work area, the easier it is to manage.
Inside the house, take down any wall decorations, framed photos, or hanging items — especially on upper floors and in the attic. The vibration from nail guns is significant and can dislodge things from walls. The same goes for items stored in the attic.
If you have children or pets, plan for them to be somewhere else for the day if possible. Roof replacements are loud, and having people or animals who might wander into the work zone creates safety concerns.
Let your immediate neighbors know a day or two in advance. This is simply good courtesy — a roofing crew is noisy and there will be vehicles and material deliveries happening.
At GenSun Roofing, we walk every homeowner through what to expect before the crew arrives. We show up prepared, keep the work area as clean and organized as possible, and do a thorough final cleanup before we leave. A little preparation from your end combined with our professionalism goes a long way toward making installation day a smooth experience from start to finish.
