What is Vapor Barrier?

GAF SA Vapor Retarder XL is a
self-adhered, vapor-inhibiting membrane
designed for use in approved roofing
membrane assemblies. It’s composed of
a tri-laminated woven polyethylene facer
combined with an advanced, high-tack
adhesive. The under-face is applied
with a split silicone release film that is
removed during installation. This uniquely
durable product exhibiting high-tensile
strength can be left exposed for up to 180
days when installed in accordance with
published GAF specifications and details

What is it used for?

A vapor barrier on a flat roof is a thin, continuous layer of material that prevents water vapor from reaching the building’s interior: Vapor barriers are important for flat roofs because they are more susceptible to moisture than sloped roofs.

Vapor barriers are typically installed directly over the roof structure and under the insulation layer. They should be tightly connected to roof penetrations to prevent water vapor from penetrating the thermal insulation

Major Benefits

  • Prevent mold, mildew, rot, and structural damage
  • Improve energy efficiency and comfort
  • Preserve the thermal efficiency of roof insulation
  • Prevent corrosion of steel materials
